Job Information

The Emergency Department Director assumes 24-hour administrative responsibility for the provision of care and services in accordance with professional standards of nursing practice, BVCHD mission and values, and regulatory guidelines. Responsible for the development and coordination of all department operations to promote clinically effective and efficient patient care. Assesses, plans, coordinates and evaluates the operational functions of nursing services to ensure quality, cost effective care is provided by an educated and competent staff. Develops and implements policies & procedures, oversees quality improvement processes, facilitates a patient centered care delivery model, and promotes an environment that encourages safety and best practices. Provides leadership, guidance, and direction in achieving outcomes consistent with organizational mission, philosophy, goals and objectives. Maintains and demonstrates professional competency in the application of management principles.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) Preferred
  • Current California Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Current BLS, ACLS and PALS Certification

  • Following the Nurse Practice Act and Scope of Service, this position will work closely with staff members and medical staff to serve the patients of the Acute/Emergency Departments.
  • Will provide comprehensive, quality care for patients, provides age-specific and culturally sensitive care to patients.
  • Ensures the readiness of the Nursing Department and communicates clearly and concisely with others to meet patient care needs.
  • Supports and participates in hospital wide quality initiatives and adheres to regulatory and compliance standards.


  • Minimum (1) year experience in acute care nursing required.
  • Minimum (1) year emergency/critical care experience required.
  • Current California RN license, BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required.
  • Basic Dysrhythmia certification preferred.
